Ensuring safety and productivity on forklifts
The use of forklifts involves the risk of accidents, which cause serious injuries and deaths every year. To prevent these incidents and limit the associated losses, the adoption of safe driving rules and preventive measures is essential. In addition, forklift operator training helps develop the efficiency needed to operate forklifts, while optimizing productivity during maneuvering and stacking.

This online SST training includes the theoretical part of the Forklift Operator training.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I operate a forklift if I have not been trained beforehand?
No
Forklift operator training has been mandatory in Quebec since 2007 – article 256.3 of the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety.
Is license renewal mandatory every three years?
No
The regulations do not stipulate any mandatory refresher training. However, forklift operator training is not "valid for life." The Canadian Standards Association, through the Safety Standard for Forklifts B335-04, suggests a refresher training every three years as a good practice in occupational health and safety.
Note that this could also be before three years in certain situations:
- acquisition of a new forklift
- modification made to the forklift
- addition of an accessory
- new operating conditions for the forklift
- inadequate performance of the forklift operator
Is it mandatory to have a driving license (car) in order to operate a forklift?
No (but sometimes yes)
If you operate inside a warehouse, a permit is not required, but when you are alongside a vehicle (public road, parking lot, etc.), it becomes mandatory.
What is the minimum age to operate a forklift?
16 years old
Under Section 256.2 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
